LOVE THE GAME OF GOLF
Here’s a space and opportunity for golfers of all persuasions to review, interact, contribute, resolve scenarios, and seek support for issues associated with this great game.
Site focus is the 2023 Rules of Golf essentially using Quiz sets along with other supporting resources.
GolfHelp does not compete with or challenge other golf resource sites. It has evolved out of a passion for the game and is designed to complement what is already in place supporting all golfers to better understand the game.
GolfHelp was conceived and developed in early in 2022 whilst COVID took its toll on golf events around the world. With feedback and new ideas, it continued to evolve.
The introduction of the revised Rules of Golf in January 2023 realised a need to undertake a major overhaul of the quiz question base.
I also took this opportunity to overhaul the site structure, layout, stability, data conforming and security. It was eventually republished on 3rd May 2023.
Questions are constructed with a lively manner utilising actual scenarios. They include images and detailed solutions, including active Ruling links back to the R&A’s Rules of Golf.
Random Question Quizzes are categorised as easy, intermediate and challenging. The challenging Quizzes are generally for seasoned Rules Officials.
Quiz questions are randomly taken from categorised pools which are continually being enhanced.
There are a variety of Quiz formats: multiple choice, true/false, turbo true/false, knockout true/false, timed true/false, golf trivia (not rules based), certificate options and the popular ‘Who Am I’.
Coming soon will be user customised quizzes.

What’s your decision?

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
Liz and Jill are playing as a side in a four-ball stroke round.
At start time, only Jill is on time and starts the round. Liz arrives during the playing of the fourth hole and is therefore permitted to play for the side on the fifth hole.
During the playing of the eighth hole, Jill now realises she has been playing with 15 clubs (since her round began).
She immediately and correctly takes a club out of play. Before the ninth hole is started, they discuss any penalties that need to be applied.
What penalty is applied?

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
David is playing stroke.
His poor tee stroke comes to rest in a nearby red penalty area.
He compliantly takes lateral penalty area relief and this stroke again ends up in the same penalty area.
This time he decides to take back-on-line penalty relief.
He correctly determines the line and drops a ball, first making contact with the ground 30cm (1 foot) from this line, and comes to rest on the line and not closer to the hole.
He now plays that ball back to the fairway and takes 3 more strokes to complete the hole.
What is David’s score for the hole?
Jill gets a 2-stroke penalty on both holes 1 and 2, no penalty to Liz
Liz is permitted to join the round after it has started but not play on the fourth hole [Rule: 23.4].
Jill has recognised her 14-club breach [Rule: 4.1b(1)] and has correctly taken a club out of play, therefore she is not disqualified [Rule: 4.1c(1)].
Her penalty is 2 strokes on each of the first 2 holes where the breach took place, holes 1 and 2 [Rule: 4.1b … penalty statement at end].
As a consequence, Liz also gets the same penalty [Rule: 23.9a(2)].
However, Liz was not present for these holes, therefore she is not penalised.
Jill gets a 2-stroke penalty on both holes 1 and 2, no penalty to Liz.
David scores 10
David has taken 6 talent strokes (TS) and attracts 4 penalty strokes (PS).
One PS for each of the penalty area reliefs [Rule: 17.1d]. He also gets an additional 2-stroke penalty for playing from a wrong place.
When taking back-on-line relief, a ball must be dropped on that line and may come to rest within 1-clublength of that spot in any direction [Rule: 17.1d(2)].
In not correcting his error [Rule: 14.5a] an additional 2-stroke penalty applies, even though the ball came to rest on the line [Rule: 1.3c(4) and Clarification: 14.3b(4)/1].
David scores 10.
