LOVE THE GAME OF GOLF
Here’s a space and opportunity for golfers of all persuasions to review, interact, contribute, resolve scenarios, and seek support for issues associated with this great game.
Site focus is the 2023 Rules of Golf essentially using Quiz sets along with other supporting resources.
GolfHelp does not compete with or challenge other golf resource sites. It has evolved out of a passion for the game and is designed to complement what is already in place supporting all golfers to better understand the game.
GolfHelp was conceived and developed in early in 2022 whilst COVID took its toll on golf events around the world. With feedback and new ideas, it continued to evolve.
The introduction of the revised Rules of Golf in January 2023 realised a need to undertake a major overhaul of the quiz question base.
I also took this opportunity to overhaul the site structure, layout, stability, data conforming and security. It was eventually republished on 3rd May 2023.
Questions are constructed with a lively manner utilising actual scenarios. They include images and detailed solutions, including active Ruling links back to the R&A’s Rules of Golf.
Random Question Quizzes are categorised as easy, intermediate and challenging. The challenging Quizzes are generally for seasoned Rules Officials.
Quiz questions are randomly taken from categorised pools which are continually being enhanced.
There are a variety of Quiz formats: multiple choice, true/false, turbo true/false, knockout true/false, timed true/false, golf trivia (not rules based), certificate options and the popular ‘Who Am I’.
Coming soon will be user customised quizzes.

What’s your decision?
9th June 2025
[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
David and Greg are playing as a side in foursomes stroke play.
After 2 strokes, the side’s ball is at rest in a deep greenside bunker, and it is David’s turn to play next.
David is a poor bunker player and Greg is quite good. David addresses the ball in the bunker and deliberately misses it with an attempted stroke.
Greg now plays out of the bunker with the ball coming to rest very close to the hole.
David taps the ball into the hole and the side then starts the next hole.
What penalty (if any) does the side attract?

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
In a stroke round, Liz’s tee stroke could be lost in a red penalty area or could be lost in the thick vegetation just outside that penalty area.
Liz declares and plays a provisional ball to the same area of the course.
Liz finds both balls in the penalty area but is unable to determine which one is which.
Liz estimates where her original ball entered the penalty area and compliantly drops a ball using lateral penalty relief and makes a stroke at that ball.
She then takes 4 more strokes to hole out then starts the next hole.
What is Liz’s score for the hole?
The side is disqualified from the round
David has attempted a stroke [Rule: 10.1a].
He is not permitted to deliberately miss a stroke (foursomes) and is therefore still his turn to play and the missed stroke does not count [Clarification: 22.3/3].
As Greg played, the side has played out of turn (attract the general penalty) and as they have not corrected the error before starting the next hole, the side is disqualified from the round [Rule: 22.3].
The side is disqualified from the round.
Liz scores 7
Liz is permitted to initially play a provisional ball [Rule: 18.3a].
The crux … Liz’s original ball is ‘known‘ to be in the penalty area.
Liz may take any of the penalty area relief options for just a 1-stroke penalty [Rule: 18.3c(3)]. The original ball does not have to be used.
After making a stroke at that ball, Liz’s had 2 talent strokes (TS) and just 1 penalty stroke (PS).
Four more strokes gives a total of 7 for the hole.
Note: If Liz decides to play a ball as it lies (in the penalty area), she may choose either ball and her next stroke would be her fourth [Rule: 18.3c(2)].
Liz scores 7.
