LOVE THE GAME OF GOLF
Here’s a space and opportunity for golfers of all persuasions to review, interact, contribute, resolve scenarios, and seek support for issues associated with this great game.
Site focus is the 2023 Rules of Golf essentially using Quiz sets along with other supporting resources.
GolfHelp does not compete with or challenge other golf resource sites. It has evolved out of a passion for the game and is designed to complement what is already in place supporting all golfers to better understand the game.
GolfHelp was conceived and developed in early in 2022 whilst COVID took its toll on golf events around the world. With feedback and new ideas, it continued to evolve.
The introduction of the revised Rules of Golf in January 2023 realised a need to undertake a major overhaul of the quiz question base.
I also took this opportunity to overhaul the site structure, layout, stability, data conforming and security. It was eventually republished on 3rd May 2023.
Questions are constructed with a lively manner utilising actual scenarios. They include images and detailed solutions, including active Ruling links back to the R&A’s Rules of Golf.
Random Question Quizzes are categorised as easy, intermediate and challenging. The challenging Quizzes are generally for seasoned Rules Officials.
Quiz questions are randomly taken from categorised pools which are continually being enhanced.
There are a variety of Quiz formats: multiple choice, true/false, turbo true/false, knockout true/false, timed true/false, golf trivia (not rules based), certificate options and the popular ‘Who Am I’.
Coming soon will be user customised quizzes.

What’s your decision?

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
In a stroke round, Greg’s ball is at rest on the putting green (after 4 strokes) and he has line-of-play interference by some temporary water on the putting green.
He marks and lifts his ball and correctly determines the nearest point of complete relief which happens to be ‘off’ the putting green, but in the general area.
He places the ball on that spot.
Before he can make a stroke, a gust of wind causes the ball to roll down a slight slope and come to rest about 1m (3 feet) further from the hole, but still in the general area.
Greg replaces his ball, takes 2 strokes to hole out then starts the next.
What is Greg’s score for the hole?

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
Playing stroke, David’s tee stroke might be lost (on the course and outside a penalty area) so he declares and plays a provisional ball.
David finds a ball that he believes is his original, makes a stroke at it, lifts the provisional ball, and then discovers that the ball he played was not his original ball.
David resumes searching for the original ball but cannot find it within the time frame allowed.
If David returns to the teeing area his next stroke will be his:
Greg scores 8
Greg has correctly taken relief for interference by the temporary water [Rule: 16.1d].
His ball is now in play in the ‘general area‘.
Natural forces cause his ball to move and it is now in play at the new spot [Rule: 9.3 … neither of the exceptions apply].
In lifting his ball and playing from a wrong place he incurs a 2-stroke penalty (not a serious breach) [Rules: 1.3c(4) Exception and 9.4b].
Greg has taken 6 talent strokes (TS) and attracted 2 penalty strokes (PS).
Greg scores 8.
Eighth
David gets a 2-stroke penalty for playing a wrong ball. That stroke and any others made with that ball (and penalties) do not count [Rule: 6.3c(1)].
His original ball is lost, and the provisional ball now becomes the ball in play (2 talent strokes and 1 penalty stroke). As this has been lifted he incurs an additional 1-stroke penalty [Rule: 9.4b] and the ball must be replaced [Clarification: 18.3c(2)/4].
As David plays from the teeing area, he has played from a wrong place. However, only a total of 2 penalty strokes applies to the lifting of the ball and playing from a wrong place [Rule: 1.3(4) Exception and/or Rule: 9.4b … penalty statement at end].
After 2 talent strokes (TS) and 5 penalty strokes (PS), David’s next stroke will be his eighth.
Note: David may also replace the lifted provisional ball (not return to the tee), his next stroke would then be his seventh.
Eighth.
