LOVE THE GAME OF GOLF
Here’s a space and opportunity for golfers of all persuasions to review, interact, contribute, resolve scenarios, and seek support for issues associated with this great game.
Site focus is the 2023 Rules of Golf essentially using Quiz sets along with other supporting resources.
GolfHelp does not compete with or challenge other golf resource sites. It has evolved out of a passion for the game and is designed to complement what is already in place supporting all golfers to better understand the game.
GolfHelp was conceived and developed in early in 2022 whilst COVID took its toll on golf events around the world. With feedback and new ideas, it continued to evolve.
The introduction of the revised Rules of Golf in January 2023 realised a need to undertake a major overhaul of the quiz question base.
I also took this opportunity to overhaul the site structure, layout, stability, data conforming and security. It was eventually republished on 3rd May 2023.
Questions are constructed with a lively manner utilising actual scenarios. They include images and detailed solutions, including active Ruling links back to the R&A’s Rules of Golf.
Random Question Quizzes are categorised as easy, intermediate and challenging. The challenging Quizzes are generally for seasoned Rules Officials.
Quiz questions are randomly taken from categorised pools which are continually being enhanced.
There are a variety of Quiz formats: multiple choice, true/false, turbo true/false, knockout true/false, timed true/false, golf trivia (not rules based), certificate options and the popular ‘Who Am I’.
Coming soon will be user customised quizzes.

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
Playing stroke, Liz’s second stroke on a hole has come to rest in an abnormal course condition No Play Zone.
She plays a poor stroke from that position, which remains in the NPZ.
From that spot she now plays to the putting green.
Liz’s next stroke will be her:

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
Greg is playing stroke and is ecstatic when his tee stroke on a Par 3 appears to have been holed (his first ever, hole-in-one).
When he gets to the putting green his ball is embedded in the side of the cup as shown with part of the ball within the circumference of the cup and part of the ball below the surface of the putting green.
The ball is holed, and Greg gets his first hole-in-one?

[ 🤔 A new question every Monday ]
Liz is playing stroke and is using a caddie.
Liz has correctly determined the relief area for interference by an immovable obstruction.
Whilst collecting an appropriate club, the caddie drops a ball for Liz which comes to rest just outside the required relief area.
Liz lifts the ball and drops it herself, again the ball comes to rest just outside the relief area.
Liz lifts the ball and places it on the spot in the relief area where her drop first made contact with the ground. Liz now plays that ball.
Liz has proceeded within the Rules and no penalty applies.
Ninth
Playing from a NPZ (ACC) is prohibited and free relief must be taken [Definition: No Play Zone and Rules: 2.4 and 16.1f]
Each stroke from the NPZ counts and a 2-stroke penalty applies [Clarification: 14.7b/1].
Ninth.
False, the ball is not holed
The ball is not holed [Clarification: Holed/1]. Sorry Greg.
Note: The damage to the hole is also part of damage to the putting green and may be repaired [Clarification: 13.1c(2)/1] and Rule: 13.1c(2)].
If the damage cannot be repaired without delaying play, then free abnormal course condition (ground under repair) relief may be taken by placing a ball elsewhere on the lip of the hole [Rule: 16.1d and Clarification: 13.1c(2)/2].
False, the ball is not holed.
False, Liz gets a 2-stroke penalty
Liz is required to drop the ball, therefore the drop undertaken by the caddie has been done in the ‘wrong way’ and does not count as one of the drops [Rule: 14.3b(1)].
Liz’s first drop has also been done in the ‘wrong way’ and is therefore required to be re-dropped [Rule: 14.3b(1)].
In placing the ball (before the second drop was undertaken by Liz), Liz gets a 2-stroke penalty once a stroke is made [Rule: 14.3b(4)].
Note: This is correct, even though the ball was played from within the relief area.
False, Liz gets a 2-stroke penalty.
