Have a Go – Rules Quiz

rulesA Quiz that may be undertaken (no login required) to get a taste for the Questions and Quizzes available (I’ll change the question pool from time to time).
These are predominantly constructed to support Referees, Club Officials and keen golfers to better understand the Definitions and Rules of Golf.
Each time the Quiz is undertaken, a random selection of 5 questions is taken from a specified (small) pool.

Four fictitious players are used for the questions: David, Greg, Liz and Jill.

Ideal to take this Quiz with a small group, discussing the scenarios and coming up with a well informed response.
Use the ‘
speaker icon‘ to have the question read out aloud.
When the Quiz is submitted, the result will be shown and with each question showing a descriptive answer which will include pertinent links back to the R&A web site for a thorough understanding on how the decision is made.
A great way to obtain a better understanding/appreciation of the Rules of Golf.
Important:  The responses/answers given are based on applying the Official Rules of Golf.

David and Greg are playing as a side in a four-ball stroke round.
At the conclusion of the third hole and before any player started the fourth hole, it is discovered that David has been playing with 15 clubs (since the round began).
David gets penalised 6 strokes, 2 strokes on each of the holes played so far.      [REF: 6S1119]

Jill's ball has come to rest in the branch of a tree.
The tree is entirely rooted in an area of marked GUR (general area).
The spot directly below the ball is in a red penalty area.
Jill must either play the ball as it lies or take penalty area relief.     [REF: 6S1249]

Liz is playing stroke.
A Par 3 has a boundary running along the left side of the hole.
Liz's tee stroke goes left and comes to rest in the general area amongst some trees to the left of the putting green.
Her next stroke hits a tree, rebounding back towards her and might go out-of-bounds so Liz deliberately stops the ball (before it goes out-of-bounds).
The players agree that the ball would have come to rest out-of-bounds.
Liz best estimates where she played that stroke from and places a ball on that spot.
She now takes 3 more strokes to complete the hole then starts the next.
What is Liz's score for the Par 3?         [REF: 6M1001]

Jill is playing stableford.
Her ball is at rest in someone's footprint in a bunker. She plays a stroke, and the ball just makes it out the bunker and comes to rest in the general area.
Jill begins to rake and smooth the bunker when she notices her ball begin to roll backwards.
Jill immediately stops raking and has done so before the ball enters the bunker.
The ball comes to rest on virtually the same spot as before (has now been smoothed).
She now plays out of the bunker onto the putting green.
Jill is penalised 2 strokes.       [REF: 6T1042]

Liz says to Jill during a play stoppage.
"An obstruction (within the Rules of Golf) is any artificial object except for integral objects or boundary objects"       [REF: 6S1147]

The average score is 65%
