In a stroke round, Jill is playing with 13 clubs.
Jill's longest club (her driver), is accidentally damaged (shaft broken when a maintenance vehicle ran over it).
Without delaying play, Jill grabs a lob-wedge from her locker.
If Jill keeps the damaged driver in her bag, she may still use it's original length to determine the size of relief and teeing areas.    [REF: 4S1545]

David and Greg are playing as opponents in a match.
David has a tricky downhill putt to halve the hole.
His putt rolls well past the hole and whilst still in motion, is deliberately stopped by Greg.
Greg wins the hole.     [REF: 4S1520]

In a stroke round, David's ball is at rest on the putting green after 3 strokes.
His next stroke is strong and comes to rest in a yellow penalty area situated well below the other side of the putting green.
David best estimates the point of entry and drops a ball into a 2-clublength lateral relief area.
Before making a stroke, he lifts the ball and places a different ball on the spot from where his putt was made from.
From there, David holes out with 2 more strokes.
David scores 7 for the hole.       [REF: 4S1508]

Jill's ball has come to rest on a stationary maintenance vehicle which is parked in the middle of a red penalty area (no water).
Before Jill gets to her ball, the maintenance vehicle is driven to a spot which is now out-of-bounds and her ball is still in the vehicle.
Jill's ball is not out-of-bounds, but she must take penalty area relief.     [REF: 4S1541]

Liz's ball has come to rest (in the general area) against a course water controller.
She decides to take free relief from this obstruction.
Liz must mark her ball before taking relief, but does not have to use that ball for the dropping process.  [REF: 4S1540]

In stroke play, Greg lifts his ball to take unplayable penalty relief.
Before putting a ball into play, he now realises the ball was in an area of 'ground under repair' in the general area.
Greg may take free relief but a 1-stroke penalty applies for initially lifting his ball to take unplayable penalty relief.      [REF: 4S1523]

Playing stroke, Jill's tee stroke comes to rest just inside a red penalty area and her ball is playable.
Before Jill plays, she removes several twigs, pine cones and loose stones from around her ball and the ball does not move.
Her next stroke travels about 30m (33 yards) and comes to rest in another (different) penalty area.
Jill returns to teeing area (not back-in-line relief), from there takes 4 strokes to complete the hole then starts the next hole.
Jill’s correct score is:   [REF: 4M1011]

Loose Impediments

In a stroke round, Liz's tee stroke could be lost in a red penalty area or could be lost in the thick vegetation just outside that penalty area.
Liz declares and plays a provisional ball to the same area of the course.
Liz finds both balls in the penalty area but is unable to determine which one is which.
Liz estimates where her original ball entered the penalty area and compliantly drops a ball using lateral penalty relief.
She now makes a stroke at that ball.
Liz takes 4 more strokes to hole out then starts the next hole.
What is Liz’s score for the hole just ‘completed’?     [REF: 4M1041]

penalty area relief

Playing stroke, Jill's ball is unplayable in a bunker.
She decides to take back-on-line unplayable penalty relief outside the bunker and drops a ball on that (imaginary) line but comes to rest in a wrong place.
Jill then chooses a different place to drop a ball (on the line), about 3m (10 feet) further from the hole and drops a ball correctly using that place on the line.
Jill now plays that ball to the putting green.
How many penalty strokes does Jill get?       [REF: 4M1035]

David and Greg are playing as opponents in a match.
Greg accidentally (not initially noticed by David) tees off from outside the teeing area (wrong set of tees) and his ball has with certainty come to rest out-of-bounds.
The stroke is not cancelled by David, so Greg must put a ball into play at the spot where his stroke was made from.      [REF: 4T1065]

Men Teeing Off

Greg and David are playing as opponents in a match.
Both are searching for Greg's ball after an errant tee stroke. Greg finds a ball and declares it as his.
David then finds another ball and lifts it.
Greg now realises the ball he found is not his and the ball that David lifted was in fact Greg's original ball.
What is the correct outcome?       [REF: 4M1016]

lost golf ball

Greg is playing a match and has been getting advice from 2 caddies since his round started.
Both he and his opponent are unaware that this is not permitted.
Greg wins the fourth hole, is now is 1-up (as agreed between the players) and continues discussing strategies with both caddies.
Before either player tees off off on the fifth hole, Greg becomes aware of his Rule breach, and immediately discontinues with one of the caddies.
His opponent requests a Ruling for when a Rules Official becomes available. The players play out the fifth hole, which Greg wins.
A Rules Official becomes available and is consulted.
The correct status of the match:   The match is tied and players proceed to the sixth hole.       [REF: 4T1014]
